BRIEF HISTORY OF THE GROUP

The Bharat Scouts & Guides-Karnataka

S R I C H A M U N D I S C O U T G R O U P
(21ST Bangalore)
M.H.Ramachandra Rao Vidyavana
# 18, West Park Rod, Malleswaram, Bangalore-560003.

Sri Chamundi Scout Group, very familiarly known as 21st Bangalore, started its mission as early as in the year 1918, at a place called Sigebeli, in Chamarajpet, Bangalore, by Sri . M.H.Ramachandra Rao, who sacrificed all his personal glory and comforts for the sake of service to humanity through youngsters.

This year i.e., the year 1918, is very significant in the history of Scouting in India as it was only during this year the Indian boys were permitted to join Scouting.

As on to-day, Sri Chamundi Scout Group is the OLDEST OPEN UNIT IN THE COUNTRY existing with sustained activities for 87 years and still growing stronger.

Sri Chamundi Scout Group has earned the Patronage of the then Royal Family by mere Merit and Efficiency and earned the Coveted Award THE MAHARAJA’S FLAG and subsequently called the MAHARAJA’S OWN TROOP.

In the year 1941, Mr. (Late) M.R.Narasimha Iyengar with his attachment to the Group was able to procure 15,000 sft. Land for the Group in the prime locality in Bangalore i.e., Malleswaram.

Right from the day of its inception, Sri Chamundi Scout Group is doing yeoman service for the Society and Youths of the Country in many constructive fields.

Grop thrives very hard to train each and every incoming boy/girl for the highest and coveted Award the RASTRAPATHY BADGE.

Sri Chamundi Scout Group from the beginning is very famous for Public service activities and actively participated in many Community service Projects. Here it may be mentioned that when there was a devastating fire in Cubbon park during 1930s, Group service and assistance were lauded by each and every officials including the Royal family

First Aid, Fire Fighting, Rescuing and now the Environmental awareness, Ecology, Aids Awareness, Ante Tobacco campaign etc are the pass words for the Group.

To-day i.e., from 1972, onwards Group is situated on a premises which is 27,544 Sq. Ft. of land with Two buildings, Kitchen, and water supply to cater to any camping activities either for the Group or for any Scout/Guide unit who wishes to Camp. Group also posses Camping equipment like Tents, required Pioneering materials, Band set, Study materials etc.

In addition to the Group training its own children in the Group, it is extending its services to other Schools also in Bangalore.

Besides these, Group also has a Training centre as Chamundi Training Centre, at Rajan Kunte , on the way to Doddaballapur at Geetha Gardens with the name Pachmari Gate. It is just 25 kms from the Group. Group has equipped this also with cooking vessels, all the amenities required for camping.

Thus Sri Chamundi Scout Group is the Only Open Unit in the Country having own field, buildings, a Training Centre, and this UNIQUE GLORY is the blessings of our Founder SRI M.H.RAMACHANDRA RAO.

If it is not out of place, I would like to mention here that the following elites were the members of the Group during their younger days.

They are: Mr. N.Lakshman Rau, I.A.S., Mr. C.J.Padmanabha I.A.S., Mr. K.R.S.Gowda, former Chairman of HMT, Capt. K.R.Krishna, former Aid de Ce of H.H.the Maharaja of Mysore, Mr. T.Kasinath one of the best ten photographers of the world, Mr. Vemu Mukund International Veena exponent, Brig. Nagaraja Rao and a team of others.

Group has many ambitions and aspirations for the coming days in the direction of training the youngsters and develop Unsique personalities in them.
